A Winter Table: Flowers, Candlelight & Scandinavian Hygge
There is something rather lovely about getting together with friends during the winter months.
For Claire and I, it's those evenings around the table, sharing good food, opening a bottle of wine and enjoying a few hours of conversation and laughter. Nothing too formal, just making time for the people we love.

A little winter colour
For this table, I wanted to create something with a little more depth and drama. I've styled the flowers using beautiful hydrangeas flowing down the centre of the table like a ribbon.
Deep chocolate anthuriums, burgundy pom-pom mini gerberas and purple calla lilies bring together a rich mix of colours and textures. I love the way the softer hydrangeas sit alongside the stronger shapes and deeper tones of the other flowers.
It feels seasonal and a little special, without being tied to any one occasion.
Candlelight makes all the difference
The Ester & Erik Winter Berry taper candles felt just right alongside the flowers. Their rich colour works beautifully with the burgundy and chocolate tones, while the gold Ester & Erik candleholders add a lovely touch of warmth.
At 32cm long, the lacquered taper candles bring height to the table without overwhelming the floral display.
I love how the whole setting changes when the candles are lit. The flowers, glassware and tableware all take on a different feel as the light softens into the evening.
You can discover the Ester & Erik Winter Berry taper candles here, or explore our full Ester & Erik candle collection for more colours and finishes.

A table made for sharing
We've brought everything together with Royal Copenhagen serveware, Holmegaard glassware and Georg Jensen cutlery. Beautiful pieces, but ones that feel just as right for a relaxed dinner with friends as they do for a special occasion.

For us, that's what Scandinavian living and hygge are all about. It's not about creating a perfect table or saving beautiful things for another day. It's about making everyday moments feel special, enjoying good food and good company, and perhaps lingering over dinner a little longer than planned.

And in the middle of winter, with flowers, candlelight and friends around the table, what could be nicer?
